Today, two photography friends, my daughter and myself went to Lost Creek Cave in Sparta TN to capture this waterfall.  We made an attempt to go last Saturday, but the roads we very treacherous and we didn't want to risk it.  This place is amazing.  In 1993, Disney filmed part of The Jungle Book at this location.  The erected a massive monorail on one side of the cliff and used it to bring equipment and people up and down while filming, unfortunately they dismantled the monorail upon completion of the movie, it would have been interesting to see the monorail.  We ran into a local at this place who informed us that the cave located behind us also contained a waterfall that was as large or larger than the one pictured.  I plan on making another trip to go explore the cave and find the waterfall within. We stayed and hiked and took pictures at this place for about an hour.

We then headed over to Rock Island State Park to take some pictures there.  Mike and Marti had never been there until today, and they were very pleased with what they saw.  The picture here is of the Great Falls, which is the main draw of this park, but there are also several smaller falls and cascades, which make this one of my favorite places to view/shoot waterfalls.  The water from this waterfall comes out of the rocks about 3/4 of the way up.  It is truly amazing.

My goal this year is to take pictures of as many waterfalls in Tennessee as I possibly can.  I am very blessed to have a daughter who doesn't mind going along and a group of fellow photographers who are always going to different locations to shoot.

Shotgun Diary

I have the pleasure of knowing this really great band. The members from left to right are:
Johnny: Bass
Brett: Guitar
Anna: Vocals
John: Drums
Kenny: Guitar

Not only are these guys an awesome band, they are also really great friends. Brett, John and Myself all used to work together at Hendersonville Hospital, where we were all Surgical First Assistants. I later met Anna, when she and Brett started dating and then married. Johnny is John's son and Kenny is the newest member of the band.

Their music leans a little towards harder rock and is excellent. This band is very entertaining and has a lot of energy when on stage. I am lucky to have met these guys and greatly appreciative of the fact they allow me to practice my photography skills on them while either in the studio making a new CD, or on stage performing live.

If you get a chance to check them out on their website, www.myspace.com/shotgundiary , I am sure they would greatly appreciate it. There is also a schedule of upcoming shows, and for you local Nashvillians, I am sure they would love to have you come see them live sometime.

A Frozen Hike

Today a few friends and I went in search of some frozen waterfalls. Our first stop was going to be Lost Creek Falls in Sparta Tennessee. The roads were to bad so we ended up not going to this particular waterfall. We then headed over to Virgin Falls, which is located in the Bridgestone Firestone Wildlife Refuge area. It looked so beautiful and peaceful covered with snow. When we arrived at the parking area, we set out on our hike to get to the falls. The temperature this day was about 20 degrees F, and it was snowing lightly and about an inch or two of snow on the ground. It was a nice hike to get to the falls, we hiked for about an hour. When we finally made it to the fall, it was gorgeous. As you can see in the picture it was partially frozen and covered in snow. We stayed for about 45 minutes taking pictures and enjoying the scenery. We then made the hour hike back to the car, opting to not go to the main waterfall this trip due to the time of day and the weather.

Even though we didn't go to our original destination, we still had a great time, and I will definitely be making a return trip to Virgin Falls.
